This Old Rock
a poem for choosing to face the past with hope for the future.
This Old Rock
Written January 19, 2021
Here’s this rock we’ve stumbled upon over and again
Skinned our knees and yelled to the trees
Damn you, rock! While you just sit there and grin!
We could try to move this rock and roll it on it’s way
But, it could leave a hole so big
We’d have problems for another day
Well, I could get a blanket and we could sit up here
Cover this old rock with a picnic—
Drink our fill of whiskey and beer
What if we took this rock and gave it to a friend
She could bear the weight of it
Toss it over the cliff for another fateful end
I suppose we could lift this rock and have a peek below
The creepy crawlies could be quite scary
But, we just might find new ground for seed to sow
